1906 Athens Intermediate Summer Olympics Participation Medal

DATE
Year: 1906
Decade: 1900s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

Gilt bronze relic was issued to participants in an Olympics that still struggles to gain legitimacy with the IOC despite its essential service in keeping the Games alive.

The medal features a seated Nike holding laurel wreath, phoenix rising out of flames, Acropolis in the background, with five-line legend and laurel wreath on verso.
