According to Yolande Crowe “With the ever-growing popularity of coffee and tea
drinking the need for the production of suitable bowls and cups created a new
section to the potter’s workshops.” (Crowe, Yolande, Persia and China: Safavid
Blue and White Ceramics in The Victoria And Albert Museum, 1501-1738, London,
2002).

This explains the variety of decoration and styles of bowls in this collection.
