Air-Dropped Anti-Brittish Propaganda Leaflet written in Arabic

DATE
Year: 1942
Decade: 1940s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

Propaganda leaflet dropped by the Luftwaffe over Egypt throughout the North African campaign in late 1942, designed to resemble a British one pound note. The phrase on the reverse, written in Arabic, reads in part: “If you inspect this bank note, you will remember the time when it was worth ten times its present value in bright shiny gold… But that greatness is fading as is the value of this worthless piece of paper… With each passing day of this British-inspired war, the strength of the Empire is depleted… The day draws near when even the beggars in the street will refuse the British bank note, even as a gift. Truly, Allah wills the collapse of Britain, which will surely come to pass.”
