According to Professor Peter Kornicki (Emeritus Professor of Japanese at University of Cambridge), “These three manuscript volumes are a manuscript copy of Jikata ochiboshū by someone using the pseudonym Tairo. It was written in 1763. There are many manuscripts here and there; it was finally printed for the first time in 1870 in a revised edition.
The manuscripts are a study of agricultural and rural economy. It carries the stamp of Aburaya (Oildealer) of Akaiwa in the province of Kōzuke (now Gunma Prefecture) – that may possibly indicate that the proprietor was also operating a circulating library on the side.”
There is also a possible mention of anti-Christian laws and regulations, as well as anti-prostitution laws, torture, etc.
