Anti-Japanese War – 20th Anniversary Film Exhibition Poster
Striking and effective color poster issued by the Cultural Department of People’s Republic of China. Shows a giant victorious Chinese soldier standing atop two bunkers and holding aloft a red flag and rifle.
According to scholar Jeffrey Kinkley, “Another unique poster! Advertising a film “exhibit” (screening?) honoring the 20th anniversary of the victory over Japan. It’s for 1965, but the month and day of this activity are left blank, for somebody to fill in later. I guess it did take place, Aug. 15-Sept. 25, 1965. The China Federation of Literary and Art Circles in Beijing collected this poster, plus an “Introducing Film” newspaper printed in Fuzhou that must mention the event. They put these materials online for the 70th anniversary. Maybe that’s about all they have in their archives. Preliminaries to the Cultural Revolution, ‘warning shots,’ had already been ‘fired.’ “
