COMPONENTS: There is an handwritten inscription of more than 6 lines at the back in Tibetan script.
CONDITION: It is also generally a dark painting. Has mild fold marks, has tears and is heavily darkened. The tears the darkening are all testimonies of that life lived in the presence of butter lamp smoke and vapors for more than a century in a Monastery

Antique Buddhist Thangka Painting

Century: 18th (1701-1800)

This simple Thangka was deaccessioned by a monastery in Mongolia.

Peter Daniel Szanto for translating the inscription on the back, “… it’s a standard pair of verses used in consecration: ‘Patience is the supreme ascetic practice, patience is supreme nirvana, said the Buddha(s). The renunciate who harms another and who injures another is no Sramana (Buddhist ascetic).'”
