According to scholar Peter Kornicki, “The title is Bijinsō 美人草 and there are a number of archery books extant with this title, all manuscripts; the oldest dates from the early 17th century but the author of the first work of this name was Taga Takatada and he wrote it in the 15th century.
At the end of this copy there is a date that corresponds to 1789 but that is probably the date when the copy which forms the basis of this copy was made. At the very end is an interesting note dated 1816 and written by Ono Shin’emon explaining that this text was handed down by his late teacher and is not to be shown to outsiders.”
