Armenian Icon of Virgin & Child

An Armenian-made icon, a painting of The Virgin and Child made by Naghash Hovnat’an (the most famous Armenian artist of his time) for Etchmiadzin in 1696. The background and frame are gilded in silver with two inscriptions on the bottom and a document pasted on the back. This is one of the oldest Armenian icons to survive and one of the few to exist.
