1936 Berlin Olympics Cigarette case with symbol of the Olympics and Japanese flag. On either side of design it says “Berlin” and “2596,” which is a Buddhist year date which equals 1936. The Japanese were anticipating their own hosting of the Olympics in 1940, so the Berlin Olympics was very important to them. In addition, they also they were getting closer politically to Hitler’s Nazi Germany.
