Betty Boop Pottery Decoration

Year: 1934
Decade: 1930s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)
Notes: July 25, 1934

Japanese Betty Boop pottery decoration, with a nicely rendered image of Betty Boop and holes for hanging.

Scholar Brian Bergstrom commented, “The rest of the inscription says that this is a souvenir of some kind from 保田海岸 [Hota kaigan] 記念 [“remembrance”, in this case of the date/place?], aka: Hota Beach, a resort area in Chiba Prefecture:.

The inscription is actually a very specific date: 昭和九年七月二十五日 — July 25, 1934
I don’t know what event might be commemorated here — maybe nothing world-historical enough to be recoverable. But interesting.”

Scholar Sugihiko Uchida commented, “Hota-kaigan 保田海岸 (Hota-Beach) is a traditional swimming resort beach in Chiba-prefecture. This is a kind of souvenir commemorating the visit to this beach.”
