Bombay Hebrew-English Dictionary

DATE
Year: 1890
Decade: 1890s
Century: 19th (1801-1900)

The compendium of Hebrew dictionary (Part I). A Hebrew/Hebrew-English dictionary with Biblical notations. The initial part contains listing of righteous rabbis, excerpted from R. Nahaman of Breslov’s Sefer haMidot. The work carries the approbation of R. Raphael Meir Panigel, chief rabbi of Jerusalem, R. Elijah Sulimon Mani chief rabbi of Hebron, and the rabbis of Tiberius.

Avi Gold, “The appears to be modeled on the earlier Hebrew dictionary, Arukh, which focuses on post-biblical roots found in Talmudic sources. This book, published in India, while providing the primary explanation in Hebrew, adds glosses in Judeo-Arabic, and apparently also discusses vocabulary of the Zohar.”
