Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) Training Used Speed Gloves

Decade: 1950s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)
Notes: Late 1950's

We all think of Muhammad Ali as a champion, humanitarian and trailblazer. Forgotten is all the hard work it took to shape the future champion.

Before he was an Olympian and heavyweight champion, Cassius Clay had to develop his craft. The youngster did so at The Columbia Gym in Louisville, Kentucky. Under Joe Martin’s watchful eye, Clay got better and climbed the ranks. Gold Gloves success soon followed.

Clay built up his incredible speed by using these “Post” weighted boxing gloves. The black leather gloves support red trim and have inserts incorporated inside. “Post New York” is sewn to a white label on the wrist while “CC” is written inside.
