Census of Mexican Colonial “Curatos”
Census made by the Church of the New Spain of various Indian settlements, which were divided by the Church in “Cuaratos” (parishes).
The census describes several characteristics of the towns: what language the Indians speak (in the documents several Indian languagues are presented: Nahuatl, Otomi, Masahua, Huasteco), distance to Mexico City and quality of the roads, production in value and, curiously, a section that rates the character of the Indians of the town (in some occasions it describes them as good, somewhat mean, broody and in a single case it describes them as “bad, mixed with Mulatos”).
