James Flynn ran unsuccessfully for town marshal, but did serve as a policeman under Virgil Earp, and became Acting City Marshal after the October 26, 1881 street fight. He is credited with having broken up a near gunfight between Johnny Ringo and Doc Holliday on January 17, 1882, by grabbing Ringo and hustling him away.
