Colombian Family & Pulpit Bible

DATE
Year: 1822
Decade: 1820s
Century: 19th (1801-1900)

First American edition Colombian Family and Pulpit Bible printed in America. This bible was published in Boston by Joseph Teal in 1822. This Bible, like others at the time, was printed by subscription. Printers collected names of those who promised to purchase the Bibles in order to know how many people were interested before they made the effort to print copies. With thirty-six engravings, this Bible was one of the largest American family and pulpit Bibles of its time.
