NOTES: A great piece of history. Note that this edition precedes the Amsterdam Yiddish Bible edition by many years. Once in the collection of Marcus Lehmann of Mainz, who was a prominent Rabbi and writer in the German Jewish community. Very rare! A search through various library catalogs worldwide and oclc located just four libraries with copies worldwide, mostly incomplete. All of JNUL's copies are incomplete or damaged.

It includes the text of the Bible and Rashi commentary in Hebrew with a paraphrase into Yiddish by Jacob ben Isaac Ashkenazi – a continuation of his Tseʼena u-reʼena, a Yiddish paraphrase on the PentateuchThere were originally four parts published: earlier prophets, later prophets, scriptures and twelve prophets. The volumes were called the Ha Magid, which literally means “the book that tells” or “the messenger book” in the biblical sense, as in “the messenger came to David saying” in 2 Samuel 15:13, is a similar compilation on the Prophets and Hagiographa
