Chinese Slave Trip from China to Cuba contract, written in Macao and dated January 10, 1853. The document contains signatures in Chinese as well as ink seals from the Spanish Consulate in Macau. This documents is a contract which a 27 year old Chinese Colono signed in Macao which legally bounded him to 8 years of slave labor for Don Ignacio Fernandez de Castro represented by Don Manuel B. Pereda. Translated summary of the document reads as follows;”I, Moe Asan = Jose Iris, from the town of Sin Hin, in the province of Chin Chuin, China, a 27 years old coolie, have agreed with Ignacio Fernandez de Castro of Cadiz, to travel to Havana in order to put myself at the orders of Manuel Pereda in order to carry out work in the refineries or elsewhere at a salary of 4 pesos per month as well as clothing, food and medical care.”At the bottom, there is a signature: Manuel Pereda.
