This 10 volume set has parts 4 and 5 of a historical edition of the novel Taikōki. They are called the Ehon Toyotomi kunkôki, an illustrated and somewhat embellished account of the career of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of the most brilliant generals in Japan’s history.
The complete publication consists of nine parts of 10 volumes each, for a total of 90 volumes. Each 10 volume set averages about 600 pages with around 160 fine woodblock prints by Kuniyoshi, who was one of the best artists of his age.

Artist Information: Utagawa Kuniyoshi (Japanese: 歌川 国芳, [ɯtaɡawa kɯɲiꜜjoɕi]; ) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school.
The range of Kuniyoshi's subjects included many genres: landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals. He is known for depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes. His artwork incorporated aspects of Western representation in landscape painting and caricature.
