Emperor’s Trip to Ise Shrine Menko Card

Year: 1910
Decade: 1900s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

Japanese menko card game an the Emperor’s Trip to Ise Shrine.

Scholar Christopher Born mentioned, “I’m curious about the date. One of the cards looks to be depicting the tabernacle that is built on site for the sokurei ceremony—which the new emperor does to order commune with Amaterasu and become what is believed to be a kind of vessel for her presence. Meiji died in 1916 so I wonder if this is commemorating his earlier time at the shrine, or the new Taisho emperor after he ascended the throne?”
