Fermin – Illustrated by Diego Rivera

Year: 1927
Decade: 1920s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

One of the earliest books illustrated by Diego Rivera. The book portrays Emiliano Zapata and the Zapatista movement, in midst of the horrors of the Mexican Revolution.

Meant to be a children´s book.

The text tells the story of the little Fermin, whose father, a ranch laborer, joined the Zapatista army to get land and education for his sons. The triumph of the Revolution meant the fulfillment of the yearnings of a better life for the whole family.

The Zapatismo movement and Emiliano Zapata himself was a subject that fascinated deeply Diego Rivera, which he portrayed recurrently in his paintings, murals and books.
