The First Complete Bible printed in Ladino by Abraham ben Yitzhak Asa. Volume III (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the Minor Prophets). This is the third of the four-volume first complete Ladino Bible, which was printed from 1739-1745. Ladino is the common language of the Sephardic Jewish community, which was expelled from Spain in 1492. On the last page (all Ladino), the printer complains that the subscribers haven’t kept their promises to fund the project and that this was a limited printing, intended for the subscribers only.Asa, Abraham ben Isaac. Artist Information: Abraham ben Yitzhak Asa lived in Constantinople in the 18th century. According to Yaari, he did more for Ladino literature than anyone else, both before and after (Yaari, Abraham, "Likutim Biblyiografiyim ... 4. Avraham ben Yitzhak Assa ..." in Kiryat Sefer 10:3 [Sept. 1933], p. 378). Yaari lists seven major works written or translated by Asa, including his important translation of the Bible into Ladino, issued in 4 parts between 1739 and 1745.
