Greek Manuscript Leaves

Two leaves from St. Mark’s Gospels with miniatures that depict the entombment of Christ [Mark XV] and of the consecration of a city. They are from a liturgical Gospel Book, since it includes an excerpt from John’s Gospel as well as Mark’s. The first leaf is from Lent, with readings for the 3rd Saturday of Lent and the third Sunday, the second leaf is from the 3rd Sunday of Easter, the “Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women” in the Byzantine calendar. This book was used for the reading of the Gospel at the Divine Liturgy on those Sundays.
