Three volume hand written and drawn set of haiku poems.
According to scholar Jim Lockhart, “I didn’t spot any haiku. The writing looks look like caption-like descriptions or 漢詩 kanshi, poems in classical Chinese style.”
According to scholar Peter Kornicki, “There is no title that I can see. One of the poems carries the characters of the year kōshin in the sexagenary cycle, which corresponds with 1944, 1884, 1824 or 1764 and so on backwards every 60 years. My guess would be that 1884 is the year – or at any rate that is when it looks like the volumes may have been produced.”
This collection houses art and artifacts from China, Ethiopia, India and Japan.
