MATERIAL: Hand-Carved
DIMENSIONS: 10cm (4 inches) high.
CONDITION: The shell has a natural sheen and dark color that makes this a very impressive piece.
NOTES: Dwight McWethy, founder of The East is Red collection of relics from the Cultural Revolution and an expert in authentic Chinese Communist pieces, found this piece in mainland China and is absolutely confident that it was made during Cultural Revolution. He has seen a couple others over the years, either not in very good shape or just outrageously expensive and this is the only one he has ever had for sale.

Hand-Carved Coconut Shell

This certainly must be one of the oddest items to be produced during the Cultural Revolution – a coconut shell that has a quotation from Chairman Mao and palm trees carved onto the surface.

The quotation from Chairman Mao is ‘The Chinese Communist Party is the core of leadership of the whole Chinese people. Without this core, the cause of socialism cannot be victorious’.
