Harry S. Truman Inaugural Program

Year: 1949
Decade: 1940s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

A bound program from the inaguration of President Harry S. Truman and Vice-President Alben W. Barkley. Presentation copy signed by Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, and virtually the entire Texas Congressional delegation. Copy #140, signed by the Chairman of the Inaugural Committee.

This copy was presented to prominent Texan, Charles Meeker, whose name is printed in gold on the textured leatherette cover.

The inside front cover is inscribed and signed by Truman and Lyndon Johnson, then a U. S. Senator from Texas. On the first two pages are signatures and Congressional district identifications from all but two of Texas’s 21 U. S. Congressmen. The inside back cover is signed and inscribed by one of the two missing representatives, “Mr. Sam” Rayburn, Vice President Alben Barkley, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, and one other whose signature is illegible, but may be the missing Congressman.
