A Khettasamasa (Jain Cosmology) This manuscript follows the seventeenth and eighteenth century fashion for illustrating cosmological works using models from contemporary Rajasthani painting. Here, various gods and goddesses are seen enjoying the pleasure of their celestial domains. Unusually for a Jain manuscript, the work contains a depiction of the four-headed Hindu god, Brahma.According to the colophon, the work is a digest of a cosmological work called the Laghuksetrasamasa. Khettasamasas are Jain cosmological texts that describe the sacred space within which the transmigration of the soul and the cycle of birth and rebirth take place. Most Khettasamas take the form of mnemonic verses written in a deliberately terse style to aid memorization.
