Hospital Guestbook from Birth of Angelo Dundee’s Son Signed by Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali)
It was an extraordinary start to the year 1964 for Hall of Fame trainer Angelo Dundee, who would celebrate two births within a span of five weeks–that of his son Jimmy, and the birth of a new Heavyweight Champion in his prized pupil, Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali).
The guestbook signed by friends and family of the Dundees at the hospital where newborn Jimmy entered the world. A young legend on the brink of boxing history paid a visit to the new Dundee family addition in late January, applying his rare and desirable period “Cassius Clay” autograph to the second-to-last line of the pictured page, his signature appearing in the boldest of black ink.
Two other Boxing Hall of Famers appear on the same page–Angelo Dundee, who adds “Daddy” to his signature, and reigning Light Heavyweight Champion Willie Pastrano, though the names of Pastrano and fellow ring star Luis Rodriguez appear to have been done in another hand.
