The 1934 Tour of Japan was the most famous of all the Major League Baseball Tours of Japan primarily because Babe Ruth was in attendance. Ruth had missed the 1931 tour because it coincided with a movie he was filming. In addition to the Babe, other notables in attendance for the 1934 installment included Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Gomez, Earl Averill, Lefty O'Doul, and Connie Mack.

These handmade, traditional Japanese Christmas cards were sent by Claire and Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Violet and Earl Whitehill, and Julia Ruth (the Babe’s daughter), while they were on the historic 1934 Tour of Japan, and come with the original mailers with Japanese stamps and postmarks from 1934. The recipient was Beatrice Wade, a friend of many of the player families,

Delicately crafted and bursting with color, each has its own cover and interior vignettes of traditional Japanese culture and are inscribed in English in calligraphic black ink, from right to left as per the Japanese written language.
