Japanese Seven Volume World Travel Set

DATE
Year: 1871
Decade: 1870s
Century: 19th (1801-1900)
Notes: Meiji 4

A huge, complete set about travels around the world. This was of course influenced
by the Iwakur Mission that was sent to Europe at that time. There is a double hemispheric world map, a map of Japan w/ rare foldout addition of Sakhalin Island and the disputed Northern Territories. The travelog covers Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, etc
with many rare maps and woodblocks. It includes street views and scenes in Europe. Bullfighting, for example.
