Very rare document translating the letters written by Matthew Perry and President Millard Fillmore to the Emperor of Japan in 1852 and delivered in 1853. Included are details of the subsequent commercial treaties between the US and Japan with mention of other treaties for Britain, Holland, Russia, France, etc. Dates on document cover the period from 1852 to 1859. There is even a small drawing of one of Perry’s steamships.
