Mexican Colonial Certification of a Friar

DATE
Year: 1757
Decade: 1750s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

This is a curious certificate for a friar in 1757 – these papers were handed out as a sort of license when the friar would finish his formal training and indicated where he was going to be sent. Signed by the Bishop of Guadalajara.

Certificate of the episcopate of Guadalajara to Francisco Xavier Martinez, from the episcopate of Michoacan, for finishing his formation as a friar. The document notes that Martinez will be sent to serve to a parish in Villa de Leon (now known as Guanajuato).
