CONDITION: better than average binding. Interior clean, very readable.
NOTES: (Urban “Fincas”). From the better than average binding on it, my guess is that it was prepared for a higher than mid-level official.

A Mexican Manuscript regarding Church Owned Real Estate in Mexico City, in Spanish on paper and apparently unpublished.

Mexico went through a period of secularization of Church land in the 1850s and 1860s. England did this in the 16th century when it divorced itself from Rome. The same happened in various European nations in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. A prerequisite for the assumption of church held property was accurate information on what it owned. This manuscript was part of that effort. In this handsomely bound volume is a calligraphed list of all of the Church-owned properties in center of Mexico City as of the promulgation of the law of expropriation. Properties are listed by street and number: Included are the convents, monasteries, churches, horse baths, schools, corrals, and rent-producing properties owned by the various orders, confraternities, and Church-related hospitals.
