Norderney “Notgeld” Note with Star of David

DATE
Year: 1922
Decade: 1920s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

“Notgeld” 50 pfennig note, a piece of emergency currency issued by “Hoffmanns Hotel” on the North Sea resort island of Nordeney.

Clearly, the hotel (and indeed the entire resort area) catered to Jews who had been banished from the nearby seaside resort of Borkum which advertised itself as being “Jew-free”.
