Kurt Cobain Tribute , the original Westwood Broadcast Radio tape reel from a Seattle radio station (Entercom/KISW/KNDD). This is the Westwood One radio program dated 4/8/94 aired in Seattle.

The reel has been stored in a cabinet at the station for years and was salvaged during a clean out leading up to the stations’ impending move in the summer of 2017 by someone who worked there.

KISW has a long history in Seattle as a hard rocking album-oriented rock and mainstream rock station with the slogan “Seattle’s Best Rock”. Over the years the station has employed some of Seattle’s most successful on-air hosts and DJs, including Bob Rivers, Crow and West, Robin and Maynard, Steve Slaton and others. KISW’s license is held by Entercom, who operates four stations in the Seattle metropolitan area. KISW morphed to an active rock format by 2003, when sister alternative rock station KNDD dropped the majority of hard rock songs.

KNDD (107.7 FM), also known as “107.7 The End”, is an alternative rock radio station in Seattle, Washington. It is operated by Entercom Communications. Its studios are located on Fifth Avenue in Downtown Seattle. Noble Broadcast Group traded KNDD to Viacom in exchange for KHOW-AM-FM in Denver in December 1992. Current owner Entercom acquired the station in 1996.

At 3 p.m. on August 16, 1991, KMGI began stunting with TV theme songs with different voices stating “The End is coming” during its commercial breaks and randomly between themes. A week later, on August 23, at 3 p.m., the station flipped to modern rock, and changed its name and call letters to “107.7 The End” (KNDD). Within six weeks of The End’s first broadcast, three albums by local artists — Ten by Pearl Jam, Nevermind by Nirvana and Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden — were released. These albums helped come to define the sound known as grunge, and the station quickly became one of the major stations in alternative rock radio. KNDD was also the first commercial station to play the band Weezer, when in June 1994, the station played “Undone (The Sweater Song)”
