Perry manuscript with detailed section on maps and fortifications used to protect the waterways leading to the Shogun’s castle, dated at the time Perry’s steamships were anchored in Edo Bay. There is a three-page contiguous manuscript map which traces parts of the Tokaido Road, which was also to be protected, as well as the water routes through Edo Bay leading to the Shogun’s castle. Lots of other information on the American expedition arriving in Japan and also about other foreign ships (possible Russian)
