An original 1832 – 1834 autograph/memory book belonging to a Miss Annie [?] Warren, relating to her time at the Hamilton Academy of Hamilton New York which became Madison University in 1846. This book is full of poetry, personal messages and personal annotations to and from Miss Warren, and research suggests that a number of pages were signed by teachers, not just other students. The pages are very well written and a number of messages are decorated with super hand painted pictures and calligraphy. Of special interest and entirely surprising to find is a particular entry is about a Burmese scholar/missionary named Mong-chi-wong, who also wrote the Burmese alphabet on one of the pages. There are several steel engravings attached by T. Doughty and engraved by G. B. Ellis. Of the 50 or so pages more than 80% are used. The academy seemed to be very strong in the literary and theology departments, and maintained separate men’s and woman’s buildings. According to the document, board was $.95 per wk. and tuition was $4.00 per quarter during this period and Daniel Hascall ran the Academy. Other names found in this book include D.W. Cady, H. Blish, H.G. Gage, C.C. Wenchell, B.P. Hascall and L.D. Lapham. The book measures
