Pinkas Chevra Kadisha

Pinkas Chevra Kadisha… Bnai Aharon Shlomo, Anshei Tehillim of Govorovo.

This Chevra is not as yet located, however upon internal evidence, it would appear to have been based in New York City. Members originally stemmed from rural Govorovo (today, Gmina Goworowo), located in the municipality of Ostralenker (Ostrołęka Masovian Voivodeship), east-central Poland.

The chevra kadisha, literally “holy society,” is the term used to describe the Jewish burial society, an organization that has existed in Jewish communities for centuries and still exists today throughout the world. The pinkas of the chevra kadisha is the record book of that society, a Jewish record, kept by Jews for Jews.
