Portrait Set of Emperor and Empress Meiji (#2)

Imperial Japanese silver repousse presentation portrait set of the Emperor and Empress Meiji by Unno Bisei. The imperial crest appears at the top of each frame in gold. On the backs of each frame there are papers which translate: Respected Figure of the Emperor Meiji (meiji tenno son kei), along with the artist’s name with red seals. Bisei (1864-1919) was a renowned silver artisan who held the title of Imperial Household Artist. He exhibited at the Exposition Universelle (Paris World Exposition of 1890) and contributed to the standard work of Western silversmiths, H. Wilson, Silversmith and Jeweler, Pitman, 1902, London.
