Russian Icon Painted on Thick Wood

DATE
Notes: 18th or 19th Century

According to scholar Dimitri Korobeinikovhe, “The inscription on the top near Christ’s head is written in old Church Slavonic and says, ‘Образ Господа Вседержителя’ which translates to ‘Image of God the Almighty’.

On the Gospelbook is the citation from Matthew 11:28: ‘Придите ко Мне все труждающиеся’ which translates to, ‘Come on to Me, all ye that labour’.”
