Signed William Saroyan Photograph

DATE
Year: 1945
Decade: 1940s
Century: 19th (1801-1900)

Photograph of the author in an army uniform and standing in front of a military truck. Saroyan is looking with a steady gaze to the viewer’s left, his hand raised to the cigarette in his mouth.

Saroyan lived from 1908-1981 and was an Armenian-American novelist, playwright and short story writer who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1940 and in 1943 won the Academy Award for Best Story for the film “The Human Comedy” which was based on his novel. Fellow writer Kurt Vonnegut said that Saroyan was “the first and still the greatest of all American minimalists.”
