Documents relating to the auctioning of houses and related property that had belonged to Melchior de Palma and Ysabel Benavento and were later the property of the Tribunal of the Holy Crusade. Includes a listing of Ysabel’s dowry, various accounting of possessions, history of the property and its transfers, etc. Titulos de las casas que compro el Senor Juan Osorio en Virtud de Sentencia del Tribunal de la Sancta Crusada que solia ser de Melchior de Palma e Ysabel Benavento su muger.Several academic experts who have seen the manuscript have said the following (these are direct quotes):  “A most interesting document. One wonders how many more documents such as this are in private hands…I would guess 17th century, no signs that this is anything other than an original manuscript…Certainly numerous references to the Tribunal of Santa Cruzada which was in operation in Lima from 1570 (established before the Mexican Inquisition) through to [the]18th C. So probably quite an interesting thing.” 

– A Manuscripts Expert at a prominent University in Ireland “It appears to have been compiled in 1605 in the city of Lima, Peru…It appears to be a compilation of notarial acts and legal documents” (This final observation was based upon  20 or so pages)
– The Head of Reference of a Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at a University in the US”The document is written in an early 17th century hand. It appears to be a will, witnessed on 20 May 1608, listing all the testator’s worldly goods and intended recipients. Intriguingly, one of the signatories has a Dutch or Flemish surname”  (This observation is based upon examination of just a few of the many pages) 
– A Spanish manuscripts expert at a prominent University in IrelandThe Tribunal de la Santa Cruzada or Apostolico Tribunal de la Santa Cruzada as it was also known, was from what we can understand similar to, or actually was, what is commonly known as The Inquisition. The document appears to have some connection with this Tribunal. Offcially, in Peru, the Tribunal of the Saint Inquisition was created by king Phillip II in 1569 and was implemented in January 1570, when Don Francisco de Toledo was vice king in Peru (remembering Peru was still under [the] sovereign of Spain).The idea behind this was to stop sorcery and heresy, but did so by condemning people with no evidence and trying to get them to confess by torturing them. Eventually this tribunal was abolished by the Simon Bolivar, the liberator”The following is a professional translation of the fifth page of the manuscript by a Palaeographer and a Professor of Spanish at a prominent University in Ireland:”I, Juan de Tamayo, Secretary and Notary Public of Our Lord King in his court and in all His Kingdoms and Lordships, and Secretary of the Holy Crusade in these Kingdoms and Provinces of Peru and Tierrafirme:
 
Certify and bear witness that in the Tribunal of the aforesaid Holy Crusade, before me as Secretary thereof, Juan Osorio, resident in this city of Los ?eyes, on the sixteenth of March just past of this present year of 1605 presented a petition the essence of which and the provision made in respect of it are as follows ———
 
I, Juan Osorio, declare that the houses of Melchior de Palma came to belong to me, and that I have paid for them and taken possession of them in accordance with law. I need to be given title to them so that at any time I might have sufficient income. I beg and supplicate that Your Honour should order that the titles should be given to me. I ask for justice.
