The Life of Lord Pala

DATE
Century: 18th (1701-1800)

The text is a version of the story of Shri Pala. The Jain author Nemidatta wrote an unpublished Iripalacarita in the year 1528 (Winternitz II, p 524n). Since it has been provided with a commentary, this is probably a version of that work, although no ascription to an author has been found in this manuscript.

Contains water color illustrations as follows (folio numbers refer to the original foliation):

1 f. 1a Shri Pala in a mandala surrounded by other figures
2 f. 20a A ship on a lake and a battle between Dhavala Subhata and Shri Pala
3 f. 23a Shri Pala riding a horse, the tree of life and a sage
4 f. 27a. A Jain image worshipped by a figure and a king and queen.
5 f. 31a Shri Pala on a fish in a lake and a ship.
6 f. 45a. Two figures conversing in a palace and three dancing women.
7 f. 50a. A king worshipping an image of Jain.
