Tibetan Sutra Manuscript
Antique Tibetan Sutra manuscript from Mongolia.
Scholar Peter Daniel Szanto says that, “While the provenance is often Mongolia, the language here is Tibetan. These were widely used in Mongol lands.”
And according to scholar Jf Marc Des Jardins, “Well, besides local shamanism, Mongolia adopted the Tibetan form of Buddhism, this started with Kubilai Khan and then later, other Mongol warlords such as Gushri Khan, controlled Tibet. The Mongols were the patron and the Tibetan their priests. Unless the manuscript is a production of a Mongol lama, most are actually of Tibetan composition and many are Tibetan translations of Indic sources (Buddhist and others).
