Total Wreck, Arizona: Rare Postal Cancellation.

Bill in Registered Package includes a rare Total Wreck postmark. Now a ghost town, Total Wreck was a mining town established in Pima County, Arizona Territory, in 1879 by John L. Dillon, the discoverer of the mine. Dillon supposedly named the mine Total Wreck because he thought the mineral formation on the claim looked like a “total wreck.” A post office was founded on August 12, 1881 and its first postmaster was Nathan R. Vail.
