WWII Military Strategy Board Game

DATE
Decade: 1930s
Century: 20th (1901-2000)

WWII Japanese Military Strategy Board Game with all diecut playing pieces.

According to scholar Jonathan Clements, “For those that don’t know, Shogi is “Japanese chess”, distinguished by the fact that you can put pieces you take back on your side. The pieces are differentiated solely by the name written on them, so this is an unnecessarily confusing game, as if the knight was renamed “navy squadron”, and both players had to remember that through the whole game.”
