Yāmarāja (The King of Death)

According to scholar Stéphane Arguillère, “This seems to be Yāmarāja (The King of Death), the main protector and ‘messenger’ spirit in the Vajrabhairava (The Terrifyer of Death) tantic system, very popular in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.

‘Messenger’ in this case means: sent to kill.

Yāmarāja exists in the Nyingma tradition, as a servant of Yamāntaka, but it is a quite rare deity.”
