Yoshitoshi Print Book Set

DATE
Year: 1882
Decade: 1880s
Century: 19th (1801-1900)
Notes: Meiji 15

Japanese print book set by Yoshitoshi including 4 our prints all signed by him, and some other black and white woodblocks inside.

This is a magazine which was launched in 1882 – the title is 繪入人情群芳新誌 Eiri ninjō Gunpō shinshi. This set contains vols. 6 to 10, published in 1882. In fact, I think the magazine folded in 1882, the latest issue I have been able to find is no. 27, which was also published in 1882.

Artist Information: Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was a Japanese artist who is widely recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre of woodblock printing and painting. His reputation has continued to grow both in the West and among younger Japanese, and he is now almost universally recognized as the greatest Japanese artist of his era.
