May’s Object of the Month is a Chimu staff top. Elite members of Chimu society carried staffs, symbols of power and prestige. The Chimu civilization was pre-Incan culture that flourished on the northern coast of Peru from about 900 CE to about 1470 CE when they were conquered by the Inca.
